Our Story
Tom McMahon and Ben Keeton first met in 2003 where they were the first two employees at the Health Enterprises Network. By 2006, Ben had moved to Atlanta and Tom continued working in Louisville on other business ventures. They reconnected when Tom's client at the state asked if he could start a new organization (Kentucky BioAlliance), a challenge he knew was ideal for Ben.
About a year later Medical News’ owner, Sandy Wensley, called Tom and Ben to say she wanted to retire and sell her business to them. Tom and Ben decided to become partners and purchased Medical News in September 2008 (less than 30 days before the start of the great recession). What they lacked in newspaper publishing experience they made up for with their passion for healthcare, resourcefulness, eagerness to learn and desire to try something new.
At first the staff consisted of two, and today it boasts six. With a full team in place, Medial News was relaunched and re-designed in September 2009 and a sister consumer publication, Medical News for You was launched in March 2010. Tom handed the reigns to Ben to pursue other business ventures. The company re-branded itself as IGE Media in 2012.
IGE Media, a publishing company that serves members of the Kentuckiana business and healthcare communities, remains the only publishing company in Kentuckiana that reaches both the healthcare executive and the healthcare consumer. IGE Media’s publications offer a unique blend of industry news, features, commentaries and other cutting-edge topics affecting the success of today’s healthcare industry professional and healthcare consumer at the local and national level.
