IGE Media names new Publisher, Editor-in-Chief
July 15, 2010, Louisville, Ky. IGE Media has promoted two current staff members to publisher and editor-in-chief of Medical News and Medical News for You. After serving as editor-in-chief for both publications, Ben Keeton has been elevated to publisher, while Melanie Wolkoff Wachsman will now serve as editor-in-chief for both publications after serving as managing editor of Medical News.
Medical News is a monthly publication focusing on the business of healthcare in Kentucky and Southern Indiana, and Medical News for Youis a new monthly, consumer healthcare publication providing a roadmap to healthcare.
Keeton is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Kentucky BioAlliance, an advocacy organization focused on Kentucky's biotech sector. The Kentucky BioAlliance is managed by IGE Media. Prior to his roles with the Kentucky BioAlliance and Medical News, Keeton spent two years with Humana in the Atlanta Market Office where he was responsible for developing relationships among insurance agents and promoting Humana within the Atlanta community. Keeton’s work in healthcare began with the Health Enterprises Network, where he served for two years as the Business Development Manager.
Outside of work, Keeton is active in the community. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Healthcare Fellows Board and the Board of Directors for the Association for Corporate Growth. Ben also serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the Louisville Venture Club and as an advisor to the Community Health Charities organization.
Wachsman brings more than 10 years of publishing experience to her new position. Prior to joining IGE Media, Wachsman was proprietor of Melanie Wolkoff Wachsman Editorial Services, which provided writing, editing and consulting services for web sites, businesses and trade and consumer publications. She has been awarded six Society of Professional Journalists, Metro Louisville Awards, as well as a National Press Foundation fellowship. She is also the former Managing Editor of Chef and Chef Educator Today, two nationally distributed food service magazines published by Talcott Communications in Chicago. Wachsman began her publishing career at H&S Media in Chicago where she first served as an editorial assistant and was then promoted to assistant editor and then editor on niche magazines such as mary-kate and ashley, Teddy Bears & More and Mary Beth’s Bean Bag World Monthly. She received a bachelor of arts in English and journalism from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Outside of work, Wachsman is active in the community. She founded the Louisville chapter of Ed2010, a N.Y.-based media networking and career assistance group. In addition, she is a member of the Society of Professional Journalist, Younger Women’s Club of Louisville and serves on the Adath Jeshurun Pre-School Auxillary Board.
Keeton’s predecessor Tom McMahon is CEO and board member-elect of Intrepid Bioinformatics Solutions. Intrepid's SaaS platform offers breakthrough data management solutions to an initial target market of 400,000 genetic researchers. He will remain as owner and chairman of IGE Media.
